Pepper ChickenIngredients for preparing Kerala Pepper Chicken

  • Chicken: cut into small pieces  -  ½  kg
  • Onion: chopped  -  2 nos.
  • Green Chillies: Slit Lengthwise  -  2 nos.
  • Ginger: Crushed  -  1 tsp
  • Garlic: Crushed  -  1 tsp
  • Black Pepper: powdered  -  1 tbsp
  • Garam Masala  -  1 tsp
  • Pepper Powder  -  1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder  -  ½  tsp
  • Lemon Juice  -  1 tsp
  • Aniseed Powder ( Perinjeerakam Powder)  -  ½  tsp
  • Curry Leaves  -  2  stalks
  • Salt to taste  -  ½  tsp
  • Coconut Oil  –  2 tbsp

Steps for preparing Kerala Pepper Chicken

  1. Marinate the cleaned chicken pieces with salt, pepper powder, turmeric powder and lemon juice. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet, add chopped onions and curry leaves and saute well till golden brown.
  3. Then add the ginger, garlic and green chillies. Saute well till fragrant.
  4. Add garam masala, aniseeds powder and black pepper powder. Saute well.
  5. Add marinated chicken pieces and stir well till the chicken pieces are coated with the masala. Cover with a lid and cook till the chicken pieces are done.
  6. Now remove the lid and bring to boil until the excess water evaporates, remove from the fire and serve hot with rice.
